ABSTRACT

This study examines the use of information and communications technology (ICT) in remote work practice during the COVID-19 pandemic by integrating task-technology fit theory and the post-acceptance model of IS continuance into a research framework. In addition, it operationalizes the technological characteristics of TTF (task-technology fit) with the technology acceptance model (TAM) and the diffusion of innovation (DOI) theory. The methodology to test the research model takes support from the partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) method using a sample of 320 employees. The results show that TAM significantly explains TTF. Furthermore, there is a positive impact of ICT use on individual and organizational performance. User satisfaction has the most significant effect on individual performance, organizational performance, and IS continuance intention. The authors provide some managerial implications for addressing the challenges of remote work related to ICT disruptions for the post-COVID-19 period.

ABSTRACT

Customer shopping behaviour has changed and people are becoming used to accessing, using and adapting to online shopping rather than visiting stores physically due to COVID-19 restrictions. It is not known how long the trend will last but it can be observed that there will be changes in current and future models in almost every business around the world. According to the 'Motivation-need theory' (1943), every individual considers five (5) key elements to fulfil their needs. It includes physiological survival, safety, love, esteem, and self-actualization. The big question is why consumers act differently during the global pandemic, which does not support Maslow's 'Motivation-need theory'. It might be the panic situation all over the world, frustration of losing jobs, mental stress while isolated and many other factors that are making consumers act differently while shopping from e-commerce or different social media platform. This research study aims to examine the factors affecting consumer behaviour toward online purchasing during COVID-19 in Bangladesh. . © 2023 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 condition had a substantial impact on the education sector, corporate sector and even the life of individual. With this pandemic situation e-learning/distance learning has become certain in the education sector. In spite of being beneficial to students and teachers, its efficacy in the education domain depends on several factors such as handiness of ICT devices in various socio economic groups of people and accessible internet facility. To analyze the effectiveness of this new system of e learning Sentiment Analysis plays a predominant role in identifying the user's perception. This paper focus on identifying opinions of social media users i.e. Twitter on the most prevailing issue of online learning. To analyze the subjectivity and polarity of the dynamic tweets extracted from Twitter the proposed study adopts TextBlob. As Machine Learning (ML) models and techniques manifests superior accuracy and efficacy in opinion classification, the proposed solution uses, TF-IDF (Term Frequency-Inverse Document Frequency) as feature extraction technique to build and evaluate the model. This manuscript analyses the performance of Multinomial Naive Bayes Classifier, DecisionTreeClassifier, SVC and MLP Classifier with respect to performance measure as Accuracy. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

Reading is an important life skill and competency. With the COVID-19 pandemic, the reading culture got threatened as the purchase of books declined significantly, and encouraging reading skills emerged as a bigger challenge. However, setting up a reading club online in the postpandemic world and discussing books while using kindles, e-books, and open-source materials might hold the key. This chapter deals with the set-up of a 'Novel Room' at Jai Hind College, India (Autonomous higher education institute), which is a book discussion club, and the success had with it. Seventy-two individuals are mapped in the data, which is by and large positive. Through the feedback data collected, this chapter analyzes a semi-quantitative study that highlights the role of such student-centric clubs, especially book discussion clubs can foster healthy reading habits and developing other soft skills such as empathy, self-confidence, creativity, and ability to deal with social problems. © 2023 Nova Science Publishers, Inc. ABSTRACT

The coronavirus crisis modified work routines in all professional fields, including university education with the temporary closure of academic buildings. Spanish universities continued to function despite the restriction of movement (State of Alarm Decree of 14 March 2020) as the teaching staff modified their routines by adjusting their theoretical and practical teaching procedures to the requirements of non-classroom teaching. This article is an approach to the perceptions and experience of university lecturers during the pandemic and the post-pandemic stage. Methodologically, it compares the case study previously carried out in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Communication of Pontevedra (Gomez Lopez and Alende Castro, 2022) with the findings of the present publication provided by lecturers from the universities of Navarra, Pontificia de Salamanca, Complutense de Madrid, Salamanca, Pompeu Fabra, La Laguna, Santiago de Compostela and A Coruna. The study involves a mixed methodology, with data collected from a standard questionnaire and an interview. The results show that the efforts made by Spanish teachers and higher education centres made up for the limitations of the physical classroom during the pandemic but transferred to the virtual classroom the resources of the face-to-face methodology. However, no significant progress was made in new teaching methodologies that would allow progress to be made towards more flexible educational models.

ABSTRACT

The pandemic situation is affected in various ways in the education domain. The sudden transformation from offline to online teaching-learning process made students and teachers use different tools like WhatsApp for communication. The reason for this consideration is to investigate the impacts of WhatsApp utilized for instruction and decide the suppositions of understudies towards the method. The study is designed, keeping in mind the current COVID-19 situation and how it affected the education system turning it into online mode. On different questionnaires, regression and heatmap analysis is performed. The investigation showed that both learning situations have diverse impacts on the victory of understudies while supporting the conventional environment by utilizing WhatsApp is more successful for the increment of victory. The assessment moreover showed that students had superior pleasant reviews closer to the usage of WhatsApp in their courses. They requested the same workout in their one-of-a-kind courses as well. They expressed that picking up information can moreover take out unwittingly and the messages with pics were more prominent and viable for their picking up information. Be that as it may, some college understudies have communicated harming audits approximately the timing of a few posts and the repetitive posts within the bunch. At long last, it is supported that the utilization of WhatsApp within the preparing framework is to be energized as a steady innovation. . © 2023 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

During the Covid-19 pandemic, courses in virtual environments now became commonplace and over time, applications for virtual meetings were enhanced, molding themselves to the needs of various sectors of society. In the context of a globalized society, digital information and communication technologies (ICT) embody the network culture. In this sense, we also have another virtual meeting application such as Gather Town, which has features similar to Zoom Meeting and Google Meet, its differential being designed as a networked electronic gaming environment. This research aimed to analyze the perceptions of the students in the application and use of the virtual environment in a discipline of the graduate course at the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE). This study used qualitative and quantitative approaches, with the purpose of broadening and deepening the understanding (GIL, 2017). As for the objectives, this is a study of descriptive nature and as for the procedures, it was carried out data survey organized into categories through the content analysis of Bardin (2011). The analysis of the results shows the use and knowledge of Gather Town, highlighting the advantages and disadvantages of videoconferencing programs according to the perceptions of the participants, being listed the difficulties and facilities encountered in the use of Gather Town. The results show the interest in knowing the videoconference platform Gather Town and its advantages, corroborating significantly as a pedagogical resource with more flexibility to mobilize the participation of the teacher and the students in groups and subgroups in synchronous classes in a playful way in the same virtual environment similar to electronic network games. © 2022 Thesaurus Editora de Brasilia Ltda.. ABSTRACT

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is used to improve the quality of many people's lives. However, heavy reliance on ICT can lead to technostress, causing health and productivity problems. Technostress has been analysed in organisations, but not in a university context, especially under remote learning during COVID-19. The purpose of this paper is to provide an explanatory contribution to knowledge regarding university students' experiences of technostress and how it impacts their academic productivity and performance. The data for this paper was collected using an online questionnaire among the students of one leading research university in Africa and used to test hypotheses related to a technostress theoretical model. The data was gathered from a convenience sample of 100 student responses. A technostress model (based on transaction theory of stress) was formed for hypothesis testing. Some hypotheses were not supported, but those that were indicated that universities should ensure that techno-complexity is reduced, and remote learning environments are improved. It was also found that technostress has a negative impact on academic productivity and performance, and that coping mechanisms can moderate the relationship between technostress and academic productivity and performance. The findings related to student remote learning environments and the moderating effect of student coping mechanisms are unique to this study. © 2022 International Association for Computer Information Systems

ABSTRACT

Information technology governance is often out of sync with business processes in many organisations. This was also the case for a professional council in South Africa, which experienced a lack of a coherent IT system design and disparaged registration, finance, and external verification systems inherited from previous systems that were incompatible with new system innovations to ensure efficient operations. This resulted with employees struggling to register social science professionals during lockdown as a result of Covid-19 pandemic. After recognising this, a South African professional council embarked on a digital transformation process to modernise the organisation by implementing an architectural aspect of information governance. This chapter used one of the three Control Objective for Information and Related Technology (COBIT) concepts - align, plan, and organise - to explore the business alignment of information technology governance planning at a professional council in South Africa. From a business perspective, the COBIT framework provides an integrated, top-to-bottom approach to IandT governance. Participatory Action Research (PAR) was used as the research method in this critical emancipatory study because the project required collaboration between the researchers and study participants in defining and solving the problem. The Look phase: getting to know stakeholders so that the problem is defined on their terms and the problem definition is reflective of the community context;the Think phase: interpretation and analysis of what was learnt in the Look phase;and the Act phase: planning, implementing, and evaluating, based on information collected and interpreted in the other phases, were followed. The chapter established that no common enterprise architecture was adopted to aid in the development of business process, information, data, application, and technology architecture layers, as well as reusable building block components. A process flow of information governance components is suggested. It is hoped that the flow chart will aid in the alignment of information technology governance and business goals, as well as to ensure continuity in the event of disasters such as the Covid-19 pandemic. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2022.

ABSTRACT

This article uses data from several publicly available databases to show that the distribution of intellectual property for frontier technologies, including those useful for sustainable development, is very highly skewed in favor of a handful of developed countries. The intellectual property rights (IPR) regime as it exists does not optimize the global flow of technology and know-how for the attainment of the sustainable development goals and is in need of updating. Some features of the Fourth Industrial Revolution imply that the current system of patents is even more in need of reform than before. COVID-19 vaccines and therapies and the vast inequality in access to these has highlighted the costs of inaction. We recommend several policy changes for the international IPR regime. Broadly, these fall into three categories: allowing greater flexibility for developing countries, reassessing the appropriateness of patents for technologies that may be considered public goods, and closing loopholes that allow for unreasonable intellectual property protections.

ABSTRACT

After the huge and sudden change in the teaching-learning methodology at the University that the pandemic generated, we thought it necessary to study the perspective of the students on this experience. We carried out an exploratory survey from a qualitative approach, following an inductive logic of construction of categories from the data, with a sample of 67 students. Categories: personal sphere, positioning with respect to the institution, the teaching staff and ICT. For such analysis, we used the software Atlas.ti (Version 8.4). In conclusion, to improve similar situations, it is essential to include accompaniment and emotional support, in addition to reinforcing their resources and technological skills.

ABSTRACT

Organisations continue to make significant investments in enabling business via Information Technology (IT). To ensure a return on investment in IT and the relevance and value of tech deployment, there is a need for a broader accountability focus on strategic technology initiatives alongside a structured and evaluative approach to the effective governance of IT. Ongoing changes in tech development and emerging technologies have broadened the role of IT as an enabler. Moreover, businesses and communities expect to see value from tech deployment in shorter time spans. The emergence of the C forced organisations in all sectors to deploy technology to minimise contact and implement lockdown regulations. However, some organisations were challenged with a lack of preparedness of employees and infrastructure needs to cope with tech deployment in a short time. Overall, the fast-paced developments of emerging technologies alongside the pandemic signals a need for effective IT or technology deployment governance. Systems, processes, standards, and best practice frameworks have been developed to facilitate effective IT governance throughout the last decade. However, a large number of IT initiatives fail to deliver. This chapter, motivated by recent developments (including the emerging tech and COVID-19), discusses the role of effective IT governance in successful IT deployment. Overall, the systematic literature review followed by the analysis of several failed IT deployment cases studies demonstrated a strong connection between failed tech adoption projects and poor governance practices. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2022.

ABSTRACT

This study demonstrates how significantly the COVID-19 pandemic has affected Bangladesh's formal education system. Despite the fact that Bangladesh introduced Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in educational practices before the pandemic, effective ICT deployment could not be integrated at all levels. Even though online classes and other print- and electronic media-based approaches evolved into the "new normal" in an effort to address the difficulties brought on by the pandemic, both teachers and students have faced and continue to encounter many challenges. A convergent parallel mixed method design was followed for this study. Data were collected from 205 Bangladeshi students and 50 Bangladeshi teachers through semi-structured questionnaires. In addition, 11 parent interviews and 12 Key Informant Interviews were conducted. According to the findings, the lack of proper training for teachers, poor socio-economic conditions, lack of internet availability and speed, the shortage of ICT equipment, students not being technologically exposed, and the disruption of electricity are major issues hindering the fruitful implementation of online education. Creating an ICT framework, providing subsidised internet for students and instructors for instructive purposes, promoting alternative means to carry on formal education, dedicating instruction hours in TV and radio channels, ensuring proper IT infrastructure and tools, and taking initiatives to promote the learning management system can play a significant role in creating the ideal environment to promote online education. In summary, this study suggests a holistic framework to continue formal teaching-learning in different levels of education to achieve sustainable development goals (SDG) without any disruption in emergency contexts such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

ABSTRACT

Construction courses are characterized by a combination of theoretical and practical knowledge;however, the teaching of practical knowledge is often absent due to safety and cost considerations. VR can improve the teaching of practical knowledge by facilitating interactions between teachers and students through virtual means, regardless of location, which is a weakness of current lecture-based teaching, especially in the COVID-19 era. Therefore, this paper aims to evaluate the effect and discuss the prospect of VR in construction teaching, with a comparative study of 50 students who were evenly divided into two groups and taught using traditional teaching and VR teaching, respectively. This experiment shows that VR teaching improves the students' learning enthusiasm and satisfaction, especially in terms of practical knowledge. Additionally, students believe the combination of traditional and VR teachings can be more helpful in construction teaching. The findings of this research strengthened the advantages of VR in delivering practical knowledge in construction teaching.

ABSTRACT

Education is a key driver of economic growth and a major factor in the social and economic development of nations. Education empowers society to create new knowledge and develop new technologies that are essential for fostering economic growth and enhancing the quality of life. Investment in education increases the society's capabilities to leapfrog and contribute to human capital development. The rise of the Fourth Industrial Revolution underlines the need for highly skilled workforce and creative ideas to adopt the new technologies and participate in the new digital economy. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the educational system has been subjected to adverse consequences forcing schools worldwide to teach online instead of face-to-face teaching and learning. This new model could have negative impact on the quality of education, especially in poor countries, where online teaching methods remain inadequate to help students acquire skills and knowledge for employability and labor market flexibility. Good governance is essential for managing the educational system so that to improve quality and enhance student's capabilities. The aim of this paper is to shed light on some of the challenges facing education in the era of COVID-19. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2022.

ABSTRACT

This paper offers an exploration of everyday life during the Covid-19 pandemic in Bangladesh with a focus on how it has been reordered through commonplace digital technologies and services. We present findings from a qualitative field study. Themes emerging from the findings suggest that digital technologies have been important to the reordering of everyday life during the pandemic: videoconferencing have been instrumental in allowing urban residents to work from home, digital money has enabled workers in rural areas to continue financial transactions, and social media has been a source of news and rumours during the pandemic. However, the benefits of the digital reordering of everyday life are unevenly distributed. The themes emerging are used to frame a discussion of the notion of reordering compared to the concept of resilience within ICTD. © 2022 ACM.

ABSTRACT

The Covid-19 pandemic impacted dance practice in African communities, which at the time were still grappling with building technological infrastructure and resources to advance dance education, research, scholarship, and practice. How did the dance teachers and students in environments with less developed information and communication technological (ICT) infrastructure in African countries such as Uganda navigate online teaching and learning of dance during the covid-19 pandemic? This article engages the Kiganda education philosophy 'kola nga bwoyiga ate oyige nga bwokola' (learn as you do and do as you learn) as an analytical frame to unpack how the dance teachers and students in Uganda navigated dance pedagogies during the pandemic. The reflections of the teachers and students revealed how the pandemic dismantled the sense of community as an actual essence dance in local communities. The pandemic stirred a radical rethink on framing online and distance dance teaching and learning, applying context-centered and technologically-responsive pedagogies, and using motion picture tools to teach indigenous dance traditions. The discussion unpacks how 'kola nga bwoyiga ate oyige nga bwokola' centered pedagogic reimaginations and maneuvers to activate agency, adaptation, resilience, and contextualization, underscoring the value and relevance of Indigenous worldviews in overcoming ever-emerging barriers in dance education.
